Persian cat breeders, please help?

Hi

I have a beautiful doll face persian, she is blue cream in color with orange highlights in spots (almost looks like a torti but she isnt). She is 13 months old and when she is 2 years we want to breed her. I want to know if anyone knows genetically what the outcome would be if we mix our blue cream with: Orange tabby, or Silver Chinchilla male. I know that in some dog breeds, you cant mix certain color varieties together or they cause complications. Also what would be the outcome if I bred my traditional persian with a extreme (flat faced) persian? Would the kittens be a mix or all extreme, or what?

I'm very interested in knowing. Does anyone have any information?

thanks

Personally I'm not a big admirer of breed standards that encourage a type of face that tends to cause health problems, so I'm not going to give you grief for wanting to breed a doll faced Persian. I would suggest that if you do end up breeding her, you stick to another doll face. There's not a lot of point breeding kittens that are not good examples of either type, and which have an increased chance of the problems that go with the flat face.

I do think you have some major thinking to do. You don't want to end up breeding unhealthy kittens, or selling them to bad homes.

Here's an article on breeding Persians. Note that the genetic disorders and viruses listed should be tested for in both parents. They can be carried without being visible, especially in cats 2 years and less. http://www.persian-cats.com/articles/bre…

Here's a site with various articles discussing Persians: http://www.pictures-of-cats.org/list-of-… Including a poll that shows most of their readers prefer the doll faced Persian: http://www.pictures-of-cats.org/persian-… and a page discussing whether breed standards actually rule them out of competition: http://www.pictures-of-cats.org/traditio…

Here's a colour predictor, though it doesn't go into chinchillas: http://www.catterysearch.com/tools/persi…

THANK YOU SO MUCH, this was an excellent answer and exactly what I was looking for. The only other good thing I can take from the "mean" answer was not to breed her with a chinchilla, thanks for that. We have permission and we only want one litter of kittens because we and friends want to keep one.

Before you begin breeding, you need a mentor. There's lots to learn before you decide to have that first litter. Breeding is hard and expensive, best to think twice. If you really want to be a breeder, contact the breeder of your Persian and see if she/he would be willing to help you learn the ropes. Otherwise, you could become what is known as a backyard breeder and that's not good!

    A backyard breeder is anyone who breeds cats, dogs, rabbits etc, and can answer yes to one or more of the following;

Someone who breeds unregistered purebred animals and sells them as purebreds without papers

Someone who is looking for a quick buck

Someone who drastically undercuts the price of registered purebred breeders

Someone who does not care who buys their animals or for what purpose

Someone who lets animals go at seven weeks or younger (dogs / cats), so that they do not have to spend any money on vaccinations - nor do they have to approach a vet and admit to what they are doing

Someone who does not offer a health guarantee, contract or even take the phone number of buyers

Someone who will place their animals for sale in pet stores

Someone who has no thought or care to good companion animal husbandry

Someone who has no thought or care to genetic good health or defects.

    good luck!

First of all, unless you have written permission to breed her, she should be spayed. Second, I am against breeding purebred cats that do NOT fit the written standard...........doll-faced Persians are nothing more then expensive pet quality Persians and should not be bred for profit - they cannot be shown in championship classes in any association.

I know genetics and could tell you the outcome of color breeding, but since she should not be bred at all, then I don't feel I need to answer it. Sorry if it sounds mean, but why tell you genetics when the cat should be spayed? And BTW you never bred Silver Chinchillas to solid color or any other color cats - they should be only bred to Shaded Silvers or Golden Persians.

And NO ethical breeder will allow you to use their champion male to breed to a pet quality female.
