Has anyones cat been allergic to Iams dry caat food?

My cat has some bare patches of fur on his head and some are bleeding? I changed from whiskers cat food to Iams cat food to give him better nutrition. Someone suggested he may be allergic to it. He has been scratching a lot and I thought he had fleas but maybe he has an allergic reaction. What do you think? Would like feedback from people who used Iams brand too. Thanks.

Apart from hair loss and itching how can you tell if your cat has allergies?

Wow, I thought I was the only one with this problem!!
I have a three year old cat and recently adopted two kittens. I fed (past tense!) them all Iams Kitten. It was a medium-grade, affordable brand that had been around for years and had a well established name, in my opinion.
After about 3 months of eating Iams, my three year old began getting rashes underneath her chin....she tends to take the "head first" approach when eating. I applied some Hydrocortison lotion to her chin and immediately switched to Eukanuba (her brother had a similar allergic reaction to Iams and Eukanuba was the only brand we had tried that had made him better before he ran away).
They have all been on Eukanuba for about 2 months now, and the only difference I see is that they eat less and don't have as much dandruff. Their poops are also slightly less stinky. When they reach 1 year I am switching them to the "Sensitive Stomach" formula, because it has less by-products, corn, and some sort of whole meat as the first ingredient.

My vet once told me to rub Neosporin on my outside cat's wounds. Hope this first hand experience helps!

I had our 3 month old kitty on Iams because that is what the shelter had fed him before we got him. He too got a rash and I went to the vet and they suggested Wellness Cat Food which has no grains or by products like Iams does. I also found out after we had brought our kitty home how Iams mistreats there animals and does animal testing. I will not support that. I switched to Wellness and have had no problems. I would recommend Wellness or Royal Cannin.

There is a good chance your cat is allergic to something in Iams cat food. Many cats and dogs have allergies, just like people! Your best bet would be to switch foods- but not back to Whiskas! I highly recommend Royal Canin (my favorite) Hunds n Flutzen (It's a purple bag), or Natural Balance cat food.
While IAMS is much better than Whiskas, Friskies, etc... it is still not a great food... at all. Also, if your an animal lover then I recommend not supporting IAMS and encouraging others not to either. IAMS is terrible with animal testing and pretty brutal about it too!
If allergies continue try Diamond foods, they are great with cats with allergies.

My cat takes IAMS, but she has never developed any reaction to it. In deed pets can develop some reactions to nutrients found in food. You should automatically get her a different type of food and take her to the vet immediately.

The vet can tell you the brands that have less probability to allergic reaction, as well as providing you with medication that will not affect the cat if she lick it.

Perhaps your cat is allergic to grain products in the food. Try switching to wet cat food. Wellness is a great brand that is grain free. It should help with EVERYTHING, nutrition and soft coat...

I would strongly suggest not using any Iams products! They neglect the animals they do nutrition tests on. If not for the potential allergies, switch for the love of all things fuzzy! As for the patches of fur missing, I would suggest taking him to the vet, maybe use some neosporin to try and heal it.
