Cat Behavior
Cat behavior is a very interesting area to study. Once you start to learn about cat behavior you will have a new appreciation for our furry friends. Most people only become interested in cat behavior when they have behavioral problems.
For most people their interest in cat behavior starts and ends with behavior problems. The two most common cat behavior problems are cats not using the litter box, and feline aggression. Cat behavior problems are the most common reason why owners give their cats up and over to shelters.
For most owners this is a heart breaking ordeal because most have tried almost anything to try and help their cat. When dealing with a cat behavior problem most people at first hope it goes away, but after a while they realize they are going to have to deal with it.
Some people start off talking with friends and co-workers about the situation before seeking veterinary help. Once they get to the veterinarian, some realize that veterinarians aren t necessarily trained in how to deal with cat behavior problems. Their main focus is medicine, and if a cat is having a behavior problems are likely to offer medication first.
The veterinary profession is really starting to change and now it is easier to find a veterinarian who are more focused on cat behavior.
If you are dealing with a cat behavior problem it is important to quickly try to resolve the issue with professional help. The main problem is people waiting too long to get help for their cat. Once a behavior becomes learned and ingrained in an animal it is hard to change them even if the initial problem has resolved.

Cat behavior problems after vet treatment? (Answers: 4) (Comments: 0)
I've taken in a 2-year-old stray that had an injured foot. A few days ago I noticed a large abscess on his neck. I took him to the vet, the vet drained the abscess and put in a tube. Ever since the cat has gotten increasingly difficult. He used to be really affectionate and loved to sit on my lap, now he avoids me all together. I have to fight with him to get him to take his meds. He keeps jumping up on the counters and seems to be trying to be intentionally defiant. Is he just pissed and will he get over it?

cat behavior problems. :P? (Answers: 6) (Comments: 0)
My cat, whom I love very much but who is very... well, not so smart. She is fixed, and she is an outside cat. She has a litter box!! But our garden has a layer of tarp to keep weeds from growing, and then a layer of lots and lots of little rocks on that for decoration, and she keeps pooping in this corner of the rocks. I have cleaned up the poop and I have sprinkled this keep away stuff on it, but it only works for twenty four hours under good weather, and it isn't cheap. How can I keep my cat from pooping in our garden? And how the heck to I get rid of the smell? Even after being cleaned and sprayed with water the spot still stinks... really bad. Please help! I love my cat very much but this is not fun at all.

I have created a monster! Cat behavior problems!!? (Answers: 3) (Comments: 0)
I am the owner of 2 4 yr old neutered male cats, and one small dog. One of the boys has developed some serious behavior problems.
I know I contributed to this situation by bringing in 4 foster cats that I am desperately trying to re-home. I hate to take them to a shelter BUT this is getting out of hand.
I am afraid that even when the fosters go it may be too late for mr. anti-social. He literally is squatting down right in front of me and peeing (not spraying) on what ever he can, he attacks every animal that gets near him, and he avoids walking along the floor at all costs. He walks along the edge of everything he can find to get from room to room.
I absolutely don't want to get rid of him BUT it has crossed my mind. I try to give him extra special attention one on one BUT his behavior is getting REALLY out of control! Do I medicate him, isolate him?? HELP!!
WOW! Didn't I pick the right time of day to get serious answers! Thanks for those that are real. I actually have had the fosters isolated for a long time! They came from a farm and were very unsocialized. My problem child just hasn't adjusted no matter how slow I have gone.
